Movie Maker 2 - Importing MOD Files
JVC MG20 and 30 hard disk camcorders record files with an extension of .MOD. They are MPEG-2 files, so rename them to .MPG and follow the conversion info on the Import Movie Souce Files > Video > MPEG page.
JVC Hard Disc Drive Camcorders
The JVC FAQ section says the video format used by EVERIO camcorders is MPEG2-PS, Audio: Dolby Digital AC-3. The file extension is MOD.
The FAQ also says the video quality of EVERIO cameras is comparable to that of a DVD format.

Converting MOD Files
They need conversion before importing into Movie Maker 2.
Do it the same as you do for a VOB file from a DVD, copy the file to your hard drive, rename the extension from .MOD to .MPG and use the info on the Import Movie Source Files > Video > Discs and MPEG pages of the website.
Someone sent a test MOD file on 3/27/06... the conversion confirmed the JVC info... MPEG-2 video and Dolby AC3 audio.

4/3/06 - I invested in a JVC MG20 hard disk camcorder. It creates video clips in
pairs of files with the extension MOD and MOI. The camera users guide says
that the camera records in MPEG2 format compliant with the SD-VIDEO format.
Of course when I use Windows Movie Maker it knows nothing about these file
extensions. I emailed JVC and they said the MOD is a new file format.
3/7/06 - I came across this thread after purchasing the Everio camcorder and looking
for a solution to use it with MM2. I have just purchased the WinAVI Video
Converter and it seems to be doing a great job for me. Now I can use my
Everio clips in MM2, after converting the files... it looks
like the WinAVI converter is a great solution to this problem, and the
converted files load into MM2 a lot faster than the ones from my old
camcorder.
