Transition Maker 2 Tutorial - Section 7

Use Your Transitions in Movie Maker 2

The 'publishing' feature of Transition Maker 2 rolled the custom transitions out for use by Movie Maker 2. When you open MM2 the transitions will appear in the Transition collection with all the others.

This is where your color coding the background, and naming the project will be useful. The color should make the batch of transitions easy to spot, and the naming will put them in the sort sequence with the others, hopefully where you want them.

See how my 5 second countdown clip with the flag on it is neatly transitioning into the cat picture.... a custom personal transition made possible by Transition Maker 2.

A • It's time to enjoy your own transitions....

There are many features of Transition Maker 2 that I didn't cover in this tutorial, but you should have enough to be off and running. For more info, there's the help file in TM2 that you can use offline, and the TM2 website.

And if that's not enough, feel free to contact myself (PapaJohn) or Patrick.

B • I'll conclude the tutorial with some pointers about using your custom transitions:

Unless the video clip that you transition into is relatively fixed in position, consider using a copy of the same still picture you used to make the transition... put it on the timeline and transition into it instead of the moving video clip. But that could cause a quiet spot of a few seconds, which you may need to fill in by using a J-cut audio transition.

If you use a custom transition in a project and then proceed to 'unpublish' the project, you might find that a future re-rendering of your project will not include the transition. The movie will still render but the transition will be a generic wipe gradient instead of the customized one you made. This would be due to the missing gradient image file.

If having the same transition available in the future is important to your projects, you will need to backup your custom project files as you do other important files.
